About the Opportunity
We’re working with a leading mining operation to appoint a Senior Environmental Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to influence and deliver environmental performance across a dynamic open cut mining environment.
About the Role
This position is part of a capable and collaborative environmental team that includes an Environmental Specialist, an Advisor and a Graduate. Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Senior Environmental Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining compliance, supporting progressive rehabilitation, and engaging with key internal and external stakeholders.
The role would suit an established environmental professional seeking broader exposure or a senior seeking the opportunity to continue site-based work with real impact
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and internal environmental standards,
- Manage monitoring and controls for key impacts such as noise, dust, blasting, and water,
- Contribute to long term ecological programs and rehabilitation efforts (with sustainability goals focused on 2050 and beyond),
- Support environmental systems implementation and digital transformation (e.g. EnviroSYS),
- Engage regularly with site teams, contractors, neighbours, and regulators to ensure best practice,
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior environmental team members.
What You Bring
- Experience in environmental roles within mining, construction, or infrastructure environments,
- Strong understanding of land management, ecology, or environmental planning (preferred),
- Clear and confident communication skills with a solutions-focused mindset,
- Ability to operate autonomously and work well as part of a close-knit team,
- Comfortable leading conversations with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Work Conditions and Flexibility
- Approximately 38 hours per week,
- Site based role with flexibility for early or late starts,
- Suitable for professionals with school aged children or other family commitments.
