The Company
Our client is a key player in the metallurgical coal sector, with a portfolio of high-quality assets in Queensland. Their operations form a critical part of the global supply chain, ensuring a sustainable supply of essential resources to international markets. To strengthen their corporate team, they are seeking a manager, technical to drive strategic asset optimisation, investment evaluation, and mine planning.
The Opportunity
This role provides an opportunity to influence major investment decisions and operational strategies across metallurgical coal assets. The manager, technical will support business planning, capital allocation, and operational governance, ensuring assets are optimised for long-term growth. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, experience in economic evaluations, and a deep understanding of mine planning and asset performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct economic evaluations and investment assessments for asset acquisitions and divestments,
- Analyse and optimise capital allocation strategies to maximise business returns,
- Provide technical input on mine planning, operational reviews, and strategic asset management,
- Develop and maintain key relationships across joint ventures (JVs) to enhance influence and decision-making,
- Conduct financial modelling, scenario analysis, and benchmarking to identify improvement opportunities,
- Engage in M&A projects and internal investment reviews, focusing on the metallurgical coal sector,
- Ensure sustainable asset optimisation through operational performance reviews and governance,
- Present complex technical and financial data in a concise manner to inform strategic decisions.
About You
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in mining engineering or a related discipline,
- Experience in mine engineering, business planning, or investment evaluation,
- Strong understanding of economic assessments, asset evaluations, and capital allocation,
- Background in mine planning, operational review, and asset performance analysis,
- Experience in stakeholder engagement to influence decision-making across JV operations,
- Ability to simplify and communicate complex technical and financial insights.
